Kago Ai in Osaka
This video showed up on You Tube yesterday, posted by Aetas 3000. It features Kago's comeback event in Osaka from a couple of weeks ago...
The only big revelations here are the announcement of her new book release this Monday and the fact that she still occasionally smokes. I'm sure many people will start squawking about that announcement, but as I also smoke I have nothing to say. Actually it makes her my perfect match! As I have said is past posts, Kago is my original favorite J-pop idol. So I really feel emotionally invested in her comeback, and sincerely hope she is a success. In fact, the moment in the video that she cries while singing really made my heart wrench. It was really great to see her perform in front of a crowd again.
The bottom line, Kago Ai is a sweet and beautiful young lady who has endured much public ridicule and embarassment. The resulting punishment for her "crimes" was a lot more severe than she deserved. And she still has the courage to stand up and aim for her dreams again. I for one appreciate her effort, and am routing for her to realize those dreams.
Go Kago Go!!!

What a post! Strange that I've always been ambivalent about Aibon but you just want to reach out and give this kid a hug as she slowly and painfully tries to rebuild a shattered career in what has proven to be an unforgiving Japanese music industry.
Observations:
1. The more I see and hear of Aibon's earlier with Morning Musume and "W" the more it is obvious she was the single most riveting performer in Hello! Project's history. Not the best technically, and certainly shaky with her offstage history, but clearly a major player.
2. She still has it all, even with the somewhat meager substance of this Osaka appearance. The voice and heart are still there, maybe stronger than ever. Aibon needs a songwriter, producer and someone to facilitate her rise to greatness. It is obvious she is up against the entire Japanese music machine and will gain no sympathy in this cutthroat performing-asrts culture.
3. Aibon is trim and in fine idol form, a la AKB48, Morning Musume or any of those groups. She could step right into Morning Musume tomorrow and me a major, major star immediately if that were ever possible.
4. The more times I get to see Aibon, the more I want to dust off those old DVDs and ":W" singles and see and hear just how sensational this kid was and could easily be again.
You're right, Chris.
Go Kago Go!!!
You are right Rad, I do want to give this kid a hug as she demonstrates over and over again how sensitive she really is. She absolutely does have what it takes to be a future success, but a success in what is anyone's guess. Obviously she wants to sing again in some way. This event seems like an introduction to that endeavor.
IMO, it's just a metter of time until someone gives her a legitimate shot.
