Buono! And Their New Kick-Ass Single, Gachinko de Ikou!
The new PV from Buono! appeared today on Dohhhup! I have noticed that the last couple of singles released by Hello! Project groups have had their PV's premiere much closer to the actual CD release date. Gachinko de Ikou! is scheduled for release next week. This is a complete contrast to what was happening earlier this year. Case in point, the first PV for Morning Musume's Resonant Blue came out six weeks before the CD. It is probably wishful thinking on my part, but many of the "suggestions" made by IW bloggers with regard to H!P have actually come to fruition. (i.e. the many criticisms of Haromoni@) I have been saying for months that the PV releases should be closer to the CD release, and that releasing the PV too early probably has a negative effect on the sales numbers. Could they be listening to me? I guess we will see if they start shortening the songs!
The first time I watched this PV, I wasn't sure if I liked the song as much as the previous Buono! singles. But I kept replaying the video to catch little moments I missed. And ya know, by the third play I loved it! I had similar experiences with Resonant Blue and Cinderella/Complex. Sometimes you have to listen to a song a few times to really appreciate it.
The PV is fine, not really anything too special...for Buono! But any PV they do is going to be good, if only because they are all so cute. I'm not sure what I like better, the Prohibition-era suits or Airi's shorts (which are always a winner!) The girls do a great job of mugging for the camera!
**And when they were playing with the blocks, I thought Ayaka was going to run out and give them an English lesson!
But I find myself listening to the song more than watching the PV. To me this sounds more like an anime theme than any other Buono! release. And their voices compliment each other so well, especially when Momoko stays in her lower register. Airi's voice is so pretty, and Miyabi's singing keeps everything grounded. My favorite part of the song is the little spoken parts they do leading into each chorus.
How unfortunate would it have been if the Miya "non-scandal" had resulted in her leaving UFA? Buono! is far and away my favorite H!P group at the moment. And I hope they last for quite a while. I don't think they have had a bad single yet!

This is truly a monster song, bigger than "Tokaikko" was for C-ute last year. Three tremendous voices, and the sound hits your ears like a silken sledgehammer. Power and grace. Buono! stock should rise considerably with this one. Great timing; this song should be on the setlist for Yokohama in January. These three girls are headed for lengthy music careers. The outfits are fabulously designed, and that appears to be the trend for the entire company right now.
Looking at some of the early images of the recently completed H!P summer bash, those costumes just keep on getting more awesome. How is it possible to keep coming up with these new designs? This is what sets Hello! Project apart from anyone right now.
As for Miya, the recent "scandal" won't amount to much and all she appears to be doing is testing the waters to see what she can get away with. My bet is that most of H!P's top stars have relationships that are simply kept under wraps. There's no way to keep combustible young people like Japanese idol stars and Johnnys band members far apart for any length of time.
Can you imagine a combined H!P and Arashi concert?
